The magic of the Damask Rose

Origination

Damask roses originated in Western Asia and were introduced in Europe in the 13th century. Today, they are regarded as a cross between Rose Gallic and Rosa moschata. The flowers vary in colour from pink to light red. Rose oil-known as rose Otto-is extracted by steam distillation, mainly in Bulgaria and Turkey, and is said to be good for 'the skin and the soul.'

The rose oil contains 300 chemicals, 100 of which have been identified up to this day. It is widely used as sedative, antidepressant, anti-inflammation, cholesterol reduction and as an astringent.
