Yoga for my Mind, Body and Soul

Yoga is a system that improves the strength and flexibility balance of our body and regulates the balance of mind and body. Yoga has 8 stages, namely Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. These 8 steps are a balancing method to keep the soul and body in harmony.

At the end of this blog you can read more deeply about all stages.

Why Yoga is so good for us?

The 8 Yoga Stages

1. YAMA – Restraints, moral disciplines or moral vows.
Focusing on our behavior and how we conduct ourselves in life.“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

The 5 yamas are:
Ahimsa: nonviolence
Satya: truthfulness
Asteya: nonstealing
Brahmacharya: continence
Aparigraha: noncovetousnese

2. NIYAMA – Positive duties or observances
Self-discipline and spiritual observances.

The 5 niyamas are:
Saucha: cleanliness.
Samtosa: contentment.
Tapas: heat; spiritual austerities.
Svadhyaya: study of the sacred scriptures and of one’s self.
Isvara pranidhana: surrender to God.

3. ASANA – Posture
Physical postures, which are commonly associated with the practice of yoga in the West.

4. PRANAYAMA – Breathing Techniques
Breath control techniques, which are used to purify and energize the body and mind.

5. PRATYAHARA – Sense withdrawal
Withdrawal of the senses from external stimuli, which allows for deeper internal awareness.

6. DHARANA – Focused Concentration
The ability to focus the mind on a single object or point.

7. DHYANA – Meditative Absorption
Practice of sustained concentration on a chosen object or concept.

8. SAMADHI – Bliss or Enlightenment
A state of profound contemplation and absorption, in which the individual experiences a sense of unity and interconnectedness with the universe.

There are many reasons why people are practicing yoga, but if you wonder just start and let it be.
