Homemade Laxative Herbal Oil
Simple recipe for making a herbal oil that can have a gentle laxative effect when used topically for abdominal massage.
This herbal oil is meant for external use and should not be ingested.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup carrier oil (such as olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil or even castor oil)
- 1-2 tablespoons dried herbs: Choose one or a combination of the following herbs known for their potential laxative effects:
chamomile, calendula, ginger, or peppermint.
Why choosing castor oil: |
Abdominal Comfort: Abdominal massages using castor oil can be soothing and may help relieve discomfort associated with constipation or digestive issues. |
Traditional Use: Castor oil has a long history of use in traditional medicine as a remedy for various ailments, including constipation and digestive discomfort. |
Alternative to Oral Use: For those who prefer not to ingest castor oil, using it topically in a diluted form can be an alternative way to potentially harness its mild laxative effect. |
Topical Benefits: Castor oil is also used for its potential benefits to the skin, such as moisturization and reducing inflammation. |
Castor oil should be approached with caution!
Instructions:
1. Select Your Herbs: Choose your laxative herbs. Chamomile and calendula are known for their soothing properties, while ginger and peppermint can help stimulate circulation and digestion.
2. Prepare the Herbs: If you're using dried herbs, crush or grind them slightly to release their natural oils. This helps infuse the oil with the herbs' properties.
3. Combine Herbs and Carrier Oil: In a clean, dry glass jar, combine the crushed herbs and the carrier oil of your choice.
4. Infuse the Oil: Seal the jar and place it in a cool, dark place for about 2-4 weeks. Shake the jar gently every few days to encourage the infusion process.
5. Strain and Store: After the infusion period, strain the oil to remove the herbal solids. You can use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth for this. Squeeze out as much of the oil from the herbs as possible.
6. Store the Oil: Transfer the strained herbal oil to a clean, dark glass bottle with a tight-fitting lid. Label the bottle with the contents and date of preparation.
How to Use:
This herbal oil is intended for external use only.
It can be used for abdominal massages, especially in a clockwise, circular motion, to help stimulate digestion and alleviate constipation.
Apply a small amount of the oil to your abdomen and gently massage in a clockwise direction.
Please note that the effects may vary from person to person, and it should not be a substitute for proper medical advice or treatment for chronic or severe digestive issues. If you have underlying health concerns, consult a healthcare professional before using any herbal remedies.
