Perfumery

Have you ever wondered what is in your perfume?
Did you know that many perfumes and colognes are made using synthetic chemicals, even petroleum?

Many of these ingredients have never been studied for cosmetic use, a frightening thought for me, I guess for you as well.

You can create our own perfumes and colognes from natural ingredients, or read more for what you're buying.

Today I choose to talk about the most popular ingredients in perfumery, each with its unique scent profile and properties.

Neroli: It is a citrus-based herb that is derived from the bitter orange tree. It has a sweet, floral scent that is often described as being similar to orange blossom. Neroli is used in a wide range of perfumes, from men's colognes to women's fragrances. It is also used in aromatherapy due to its calming properties.

Mimosa: Mimosa is a yellow-flowered herb that has a sweet, powdery scent. It's often used in women's fragrances due to its feminine and romantic aroma. Mimosa is also used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation and reduce stress.

Orris: Orris is derived from the iris plant and has a powdery, floral scent. It's often used as a fixative in perfumes to help the scent last longer.

Musk: Musk is an animal-derived ingredient that has a warm, musky scent. It's often used as a base note in perfumes to add depth and complexity to the scent.

Osmanthus: Osmanthus is a flower with a sweet, fruity scent that is often used in women's fragrances. It's also used in traditional Chinese medicine to help alleviate stress and anxiety.

Muguet: Muguet, also known as Lily of the Valley, has a fresh, green scent that is often used in women's fragrances. It's also used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation.

Monoi: Monoi is a coconut oil-based fragrance that is derived from Tahitian gardenias. It has a tropical, floral scent and is often used in sunscreens and body lotions.

Jasmine: Jasmine is a flower with a sweet, floral scent that is often used in women's fragrances. It's also used in aromatherapy to help alleviate depression and anxiety.

Labdanum: Labdanum is a resin with a warm, woody scent that is often used in men's fragrances. It's also used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation.

These ingredients can be used alone or in combination with other ingredients to create unique and complex fragrances. Perfumers may also use different extraction methods to capture the essential oils of these ingredients, such as steam distillation or solvent extraction.
